Why Supporting Moms Matters Beyond the Screen
Most people know The Latch Link for our virtual lactation consults. But the truth is, our mission has never lived only inside a screen. From day one, The Latch Link has been about supporting moms where they actually are: in their homes, in their communities, and in the moments they feel unseen or alone.
Breastfeeding support isn’t just about latch angles and feeding plans. It’s about making sure mothers have what they need as whole people.
That’s why this year, I chose to donate to the Church of Hope here in Sarasota, Florida. It’s a space that partners with organizations like Mothers Helping Mothers to provide essential baby goods and support to families in need.
This Isn’t Charity, It’s A Shared Responsibility.
Community support is just as important as breastfeeding support. Breastfeeding challenges don’t exist in isolation. Housing stability, food security, access to baby gear, transportation, emotional support, mental health resources, can all influence breastfeeding
A feeding plan can only go so far if a mother is fighting a battle on all fronts.
When families have access to diapers, clothing, cribs, wipes, and compassionate volunteers who listen without judgment, they’re not just getting “stuff,” they’re getting a little more room to breathe. And that breathing room helps them show up more fully for their babies.
Most mothers do everything right, but still struggle because resources are unevenly distributed and the systems meant to help them were not designed with mothers in mind.
That’s why community organizations like Mothers Helping Mothers matter – they fill the gaps no one else talks about.
They make sure moms don’t have to choose between a feeding pillow and the electric bill, diapers and dinner, or baby clothes and gas money. When those basic needs are met, breastfeeding support becomes more effective, more sustainable, and more meaningful.
The Story That Shaped Our Mission
The Latch Link wasn’t created to be a telehealth company. It was created because a 15-year-old girl once sat in a hospital room, scared about what steps to take next. I was lucky enough to get real help with breastfeeding, and it changed everything for me.
That moment is the reason our brand exists, the reason our voice is what it is, and why we believe support must reach beyond algorithms, video calls, and the transactional parts of healthcare.
Supporting moms isn’t just something we say at The Latch Link, it’s something we do. We help mothers understand their feeding journey, educate families on boundaries, and invest in organizations that help motherhood feel safer and more sustainable.
How You Can Join Us in Supporting Moms
This isn’t a campaign or a fundraiser. There’s nothing to buy and nothing we’re asking you to donate.
If reading this sparks something in you – a desire to give back, to support moms in your own neighborhood, here are some simple ways to help:
- Donate gently used baby items to a local family resource center
- Ask your community organizations what they need
- Offer to help a new parent with meals, errands, or childcare
- Share local resources with mothers
- Offer emotional support
Sometimes, the most powerful support for moms is to simply remind her that she doesn’t have to do this alone.
